Other Facts and Information
The KoF series was billed as the combination of all of SNK's popular series. In that vein, Ralf and Clark and even the name Ikari are throwbacks to SNK's "Ikari Warriors". It has never been confirmed as to wether or not they actually are Paul and Vince (the heroes of Ikari Warriors) and the names were just changed, thus making those games canon, but it has never been really denied either.(*)
Ironically, the red character (Paul) from Ikari Warriors is a spin on Sylvester Stallone's Rambo character. He sports the same red headband, shirtless, single arm heavy machinegun look, which effectively makes Ralf only a few degrees of separation from Rambo as well (Though Ralf's similarity to Rambo is very slight). Interestingly enough, in his "loading screen" picture from the Neo CD / Saturn version of KoF '97 he is shown wearing the "Ikari Warriors" garb, which of course makes him look a hell of a lot like Rambo.(*)
UNCONFIRMED: In one of the KoF comics, Ralf is shown being struck by a Nuclear blast, which is what gives him such "explosive" punching power. I wouldn't mention something so inconcievable as this, except that in KoF '99 he had a win quote that stated he can survive anything, even nukes. Could it be true? (*)
Though the storyline signifigance is slight, Ralf and Clark began in KoF 94 as almost identical characters and even wore the exact same outfit, presumably to help the "Ikari Warriors" tie in smooth over. Over the years though they have deviated a great deal, and are now nowhere near the same.
Ralf and Clark's infamous "Cross Changer" intro ('96 to '98) is a throwback to an old japan sentai show named "Jetman" in which the five hero's shouted "Cross Changer" when changing outfits. In addition, I'm fairly sure Ralf's "Galactica Phantom, Dokkan!" quote is a throwback to an anime titled "Ojamajo Doremi, Dokkan!"(*)
